DataHub Access

Please read this section carefully in order to send a valid request for DataHub access. Please follow all steps in the succession described below.

Account request

Researchers who want to work with the DataHub need a staff account at Marburg University (UMR). It does not matter if you are an employee of UMR or if you are employed by another institution, you will need a UMR staff account. As long as you are affiliated with TAM or other related CRCs and are approved by the DataHub PIs, you will get access to the DataHub. If you don't have a UMR staff account yet, we will create one for you. If you already have a UMR staff account, you still have to request access as the staff account itself is not sufficient but additional permissions need to be set for users.

Independent of whether you already have a UMR staff account or need one, please fill the DataHub Registration Form. Basing on your information, we can start an onboarding workflow and provide you with the necessary accounts, permissions and information.

For regulatory compliance on providing access to high performance compute resources, we also need to contact the respective group leaders / PIs and ask them to acknowledge to the terms of use and relevant legal provisions.

Security and remote access

We have to ensure a high level of data security. Therefore, most of our services require two-factor authentication (2FA) and/or physical or VPN-connection to the university network in Marburg. Connecting to our protected services from the internet is not possible and will result in an error message like "Site can't be reached" or similar.

Two-factor authentication

After activating your Uni-Marburg Staff Account, you will need to actively apply for two-factor authentication on the 2FA-Portal of the HRZ Marburg (go to Token beantragen). You can choose between an App token or a TAN token. You can choose a video call for authentication, then activation will be faster than via post mail.

Access to VPN

After activation of 2FA, you can set up VPN connection to the university Network. The HRZ Marburg provides instructions to set up VPN connection for various operating systems.

Access to MaRC3 and Jupyter_HPC

By default we provide DataHub users with permissions to use Jupyter_HPC and MaRC3, where TAM users have access to a privileged "owner partition". You will receive a separate email from the University Computer Center Marburg on this. You can find an introduction to MaRC3 usage on our HPC service page.

For security reasons new users only have access to a restricted shell by default. First time users need to change their shell (user interface) to bash using this web-form.

The MaRC3 cluster is a powerful and valuable shared resource. Users have to adhere to the terms of use and to principles of fair use. Please be aware that there might be restrictions on the usage, especially for users in / from foreign countries, due to specific regulations on supercomputers like EU dual-use directive, embargoes, etc.
